Auto moderator
AutoMod detects unwanted content and responds according to your server rules.
Included features
- Ten filters for content, spam, links and mentions
- Separate role and channel scopes
- Up to ten warning levels with deletion, timeout, kick or ban
What can AutoMod do?
AutoMod lets you decide which messages are allowed on your server. Ten filters check things such as invites, links, spam and mentions. Set the role and channel scope for each filter. Fjord can delete offending messages and take further action based on the warning level.
Requirements and role hierarchy
The auto-moderator only processes members that Fjord is actually allowed to moderate. The decisive factors are the Discord role order and the required server and channel rights.
Required Discord rights
View channel
Manage messages
Moderate members
Kick members
Ban members
Manage webhooks
“View Channel” is required for filtering. Manage Messages is only required for configured message deletion. The moderation rights are only required if the corresponding consequence is used. “Manage webhooks” is only required for the log channel.
If a member's highest role is at the same level as or above Fjord's highest role, that member is ignored completely. Fjord does not delete the message, issue a warning, apply a timeout, kick, or ban. The same applies if Fjord lacks the general moderation permissions or the permission needed for the configured action.
Check before activating
- Drag the Fjord role in Server Settings → Roles clearly above all roles whose members should be moderated.
- Allow Fjord to see messages in the monitored channels. If message deletion is used, also grant “Manage messages”.
- Grant the permissions needed for the configured actions. Fjord needs Moderate Members for timeouts, Kick Members for kicks and Ban Members for bans.
- Check channel permission overrides. Channel-specific denials can override server-wide permissions.
Server owners and members who Discord does not allow Fjord to moderate due to their roles or permissions also remain unaffected. In these cases, the auto-moderator deliberately does not carry out any partial action.
Set up auto moderator
- Open the desired server in the dashboard and then Auto-Moderator.
- First activate the Auto-Moderator switch.
- Under Warnings and Actions, specify the number and consequences of the warning levels.
- Activate the required filters and configure their role and channel range.
- Optionally enable bot moderation and log channel.
- Save the changes. Invalid or incomplete settings will be displayed before saving.
An activated main switch alone does not filter anything. At least one filter must also be activated and validly configured.
Role and channel scopes
Almost every filter has its own scope. Roles and channels can therefore be treated differently for each filter.
| Mode | Behavior |
| Everywhere except selection | The filter basically applies everywhere or for all roles. Selected channels or roles are excluded. |
| Selection only | The filter only applies to the selected channels or to members with the selected roles. |
The scopes determine where and for whom a filter runs. Discord’s role hierarchy still applies. Selecting a role does not make an otherwise unmoderatable member eligible for moderation.

Warnings and consequences
You can configure between one and ten warning levels and change their order. At each stage it is determined separately whether the triggering message is deleted and what the consequences will be.
Set a separate expiration period for each warning level in hours, days or weeks. Without configuration, the default is one year (365 days); the allowed range is one hour to 365 days. This period applies to new automatic warnings and /warn. Moving a warning level keeps its expiration period, consequence and message deletion together. The database automatically removes expired warnings from active warning records; they no longer count as active warnings.
The expiration date is fixed when a warning is issued. For warnings already stored with an expiration date, it cannot later be shortened or extended. Dashboard changes apply only to warnings issued afterwards. Older warnings without an expiration date do not receive one retroactively and can still be removed by authorized moderators. Warning expiration is independent of a Discord timeout, kick or ban.
| Consequence | Behavior | Required prerequisite |
| None | The warning is counted. Apart from the optional message deletion, there is no sanction. | Fjord must moderate the member and, if necessary, be allowed to manage the message. |
| Timeout | The member receives a timeout of at least 1 minute and a maximum of 28 days. | Right to “moderate members” and a lower member role. |
| Kick | The member is removed from the server and can return via an invitation. | “Kick members” right and a lower member role. |
| Ban | The member is banned from the server. | Right “Ban members” and a lower member role. |
If Fjord cannot reliably perform the moderation configured for a warning level, the user is ignored completely. Fjord does not delete the message, issue a warning or apply a sanction.
Bots and logging
The main switch enables or disables the Auto moderator. Logging has its own switch, which you can toggle while the Auto moderator is enabled, whether or not a channel is selected. Turning logging off keeps the selected channel. Selecting “No channel” automatically turns only the logging switch off.
Bot moderation determines whether messages from other bots are checked by the active filters. This does not change Discord permissions or role order.
The optional log channel documents warnings, detected messages and actions taken. Fjord publishes these logs via a webhook rather than as regular bot messages. Choose a channel that Fjord can view and in which Fjord can manage webhooks. The log channel does not replace Discord permissions or enable filters.
Fix errors
| Observation | Examination |
| A particular member is never moderated. | Is their highest role really below the highest Fjord role? Is it the server owner or does it have a non-moderate position? |
| No one is moderated. | Are the main switch and at least one filter active? Does Fjord have the necessary rights and is his role high enough? |
| The filter reacts in the wrong channel. | Check the channel mode “Everywhere except selection” or “Selection only” for each filter. |
| Messages remain. | Is deletion activated for this warning level and is Fjord allowed to manage messages in the channel? |
| There is no timeout, kick or ban. | Check the Discord permission that matches the action and the role order. If moderation is not possible, no warning is generated. |
| No log appears. | Is logging activated, an available channel selected and is Fjord allowed to manage webhooks there? Also check whether the webhook used has been deleted. |
